Olympic Studio One Germanium Mic EQ module.
This 500 series compatible modules is a copy of the Original Mic EQ unit used in Studio One Olympic Studios Barnes from1966, until 1978. It contains Germanium transistors and has a dynamic overload that you will not find in Helios desks which it pre dates by around four years.
The original circuits have been replicated using new old stock transistors, the pcb boards have been reduced in size to a to the API 2520 footprint.
There are no IC's in these units only Class A amplifiers

The module has four plug in Class A discrete amplifiers , Mic Amp, Post Eq amp, and out put Amps, the mic amp is the three transistor design designed by Dick Swettenham developed at Olympic where he was technical director. A silicon version of this circuit can also be found in the early Helios desks it was known as the MMC1 card, ( Mic Mix Card ) the next module is a two transistor germanium post EQ amp , and the output stage is a balanced class A discreet balanced configuration with amplifiers capable of driving into 600 ohm’s with very low distortion.
There were no output transformers used in the main group outputs stages of the desk, the signal path would see Dolby 301/360 transformers, Ampex or 3M tape machines in the signal path depending on the recording year in question.

We decided to take a modular approach and have plug in electronics to it is possible to replace the post EQ and output stages amplifiers with a different types this would make it sound similar to the 1978 desk replacement or the first Helios desk built in 1969 and installed in Studio 2 this was the first and only Helios Desk that Olympic ever had, this desk contain Silicon transistors and could be run at a higher voltage rail and therefore have more headroom.
These modules were never design to be used outside of the console they perform better in a mixer channel where a channel fader with gain is available just like the original, this configuration will give you more control over dynamic overload and head room.

All music sessions recorded in Olympic Studio one Barnes from 1966 until 1978 were recorded through theses input modules the desk was replace in 1978 with a new in-house design
